It must be beautiful
“Whoever goes to the left will lose his horse.
The one who goes to the right will lose his life.
And the one who goes straight will remain alive, but will forget himself.”
“I live in Belarus. This territory is a historical crossroads, a meeting place between Western Europe and the East, North and South, Latin and Cyrillic, paganism and Christianity.
I study spaces that, like the whole country, cannot be precisely defined – intersections, village boundaries, plots, roads. In our fairy tales, in such places there was always a stone with instructions, with a difficult choice, by which the hero determined his future fate. Now we seem to hear an echo and in transitional places we create something – utopian, at times naive, and sometimes incomprehensible. Here the identity of the author disappears, because all these places are decorated by order of local authorities. He, the author, is replaced by culture, what he knew, but had long forgotten, and now he is creating anew for himself and for our children.”
