Description
A sketch-project for a series of tapestries. The idea for the project arose in the process of visual searches and experiments with the scanner. Having fallen in love with the method of distortions that result if you move the image during the scanning process, the artist began to make collages using old postcards of old Russian churches. Combining churches from different parts of the country and distorting them, the result is a glitch image that resembles a tapestry or a Soviet wall carpet. Nevertheless, for the final exposition, the author places “carpets” not only on the wall, but also on the floor. And then what should give us a sense of support and strength turns into a destructured surface far from reliability and security.
Daria Vengerskaya works with photography and also uses mixed media practices – hand-made & digital collage. In her works, Daria explores social and ideological issues using familiar cultural images (cultural codes). The artist’s latest projects are dedicated to memory and collective trauma.
