Dmitry Berkut. Under The Asian Sun

Out of stock

During the few years that Dmitry Berkut talked about in his travels, in the photoblog on the BBC Russian Service website, he managed to cover a wide range of geographical locations, objects, and people. From Podporozhye in North-Western Russia to Malaysia, from Vepsians (a unique ethnic group in Russia) to Orang Asli (Malay tribe), from Russian shipbuilders to Thai organizers of cockfights.

Most of all, I remember his careful attitude to the heroes of his photo stories. Whether it’s World War II veterans in Russia, or garbage collectors on the Bali island – for Dmitry, these are real people with personal problems and joys, not abstract characters. This distinguishes his position: He talks about them openly and warmly, without embellishing reality.
