We immersed ourselves in Francis Bacon’s world of pain and trauma through episodes of films by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos.

For her, this kind of collage is like metaphorical maps: you take the material, you start connecting it on the sheet, and at some point your unconscious clings to an image you’ve accidentally caught. Then you pull it out of you and live it. You make it visible. Which means it’s not so traumatic anymore. This, as surrealist photographer John Deakin said, is like capturing your demons.

Elena Pavlova was born in 1976 in a small town-station Novomichurinsk, Ryazan region. Her early childhood was spent in the village with her grandmother, a witch doctor.

Carelessness, naturalness, Russian melancholy with its chthonic images and everyday magic formed contemplation and a special artistic and mystical vision of the artist.
