“I was on Athos as an Orthodox Russian man and an artist. Only … “- Petersburg photographer Alexander Kitaev repeats following romantic writer Boris Zaitsev. Zaitsev, the largest representative of the “Silver Age” of Russian literature, visited the millennial monastic state of Mount Athos in Greece in 1927. Kitaev, a recognized classic silver photography, decided to create a genuine “portrait” of contemporary Mount Athos, has made five expeditions to the Holy Mountain in the second half of the 1990s. In this edition, reproduced only a fraction of the Athos etched Kitaev, clearly demonstrating the ability of the author to grasp the mystery of the bizarre symbiosis of man and nature coexisting equals in one of the most sacred places of the Orthodox world.
