«Centrāltirgus» by Māra Brašmane is composed of documentary photographs taken at Riga Central market, which was one of Māra’s preferred locations within the time period from 1965 untill 2017.
The chronological order of this series is not only showing the life of the Central market - it’s changing through years and it’s typical characters. It also gives a possibility to observe the growth of the photographer’s vision and her pictures aesthetics development, and - probably the most precious - to follow our own attitude to random, at first sight, photoshots from the past.
In the preface of the book, photograpy historian Alise Tifentale is sharing her personal memories about Riga Central market in 1990-ties and reflects on Māra Brašmane’s contribution into Latvian photography.
